I started out by creating a sketch of the map with the idea of it being a laboratory that looked like a bunker. Then I made a greybox following my sketched design.

Once I had tested and was satisfied with the greybox I started to do the Environmental Art using assets provided by Unreal Engine. My goal was to fully polish the level within the timeframe given. While it didn't quite reach the state I was hoping, overall it produced a work I am proud of.

I wanted to make the area look like it was overgrown with plants and was not being properly taken care of. However I wanted to look like it could still be in use.

My main takeaway from this project was that I needed to work on my lighting skills as I was not happy with how I had implemented the lighting. I put more effort into learning lighting in another project and I feel I could now do a better job with it here. I did find my growth as a level design over the time I spent designing levels in Unreal Tournament 3 was well showcased with this project. I'm glad I also got to spend the time to learn Unreal Engine 4 for this project as well.

Summary

• Design map on paper around the idea of it being like an underground bunker combined with a research facility.

• Greyboxed and playtested the map to improve the design.

• Used art assets to create first pass art.

• Used Blueprint to create elevators and doors.

Project Goals

For this project I wanted to hone my prior experience in Unreal Tournament 3 by focusing my time on a smaller scaled PvP FPS map. Since this was my first project in Unreal Engine I wanted to keep the scope smaller. I also wanted to spend the time using art assets to make it look polished.
